Oracle
Oracle is by far
the most prevalent software used in e-commerce
today, powering the databases of nine of the ten most popular
websites. So it is not
surprising that Imperial’s solid state accelerators are used more
often with Oracle than in any other environment—often with very
impressive results. In a published “High
Impact” white paper, Oracle found Imperial’s solid
state accelerator improved their database performance an astounding
900%.
Imperial’s
MegaRam accelerators supercharge Oracle databases by providing
access to critical data hundreds of times faster than conventional
storage. This has proven to be a competitive advantage to many financial
firms and telecommunications
companies. MegaRam
accelerators look like a typical SCSI hard drive to the system, but
are comprised entirely of memory.
By moving only the hottest Oracle files to the MegaRam
accelerator, I/O bottlenecks can be averted, and the CPU can process
more.
On average, over
50% of I/O traffic is caused by just 5% of the system data.
Transferring just a few Oracle files can result in a 200-400%
performance improvement in less than an hour. Common Oracle files to
place on the MegaRam include:
- Redo
Logs
- Rollback
Segments
- Heavily
Hit Tables
- Indices
- Temporary
Tables
A more in-depth
description of these files can be found in the white paper “Tuning
Oracle with Solid State Accelerators.”
