Sendmail
The Sendmail
platform powers the majority of mail servers on the Internet today.
There is a tremendous amount of reading and writing required of the
storage system when using an email program like Sendmail. Often,
SMTP, POP and IMAP loads can cause conventional hard disk storage
systems to become bogged down and sluggish due to their mechanical
latencies. Large queues
develop and email service may be slowed down.
A solution to this is the addition of a MegaRam storage
accelerator.
Imperial’s
MegaRam solid state accelerators increase the performance of Web and
email servers, allowing the Sendmail program to operate at its full
mail handling capacity. By moving Sendmail’s message queue and temp
files to the MegaRam, the CPU is alleviated of slow disk response.
Results can be seen immediately in better response times, shorter
queues, and quicker executions.
Integrating
SSD's into Email Routing Infrastructures for Maximum Performance,
Cost Reduction, & Zero Mail Loss is a 9-page
White Paper that explains the inner I/O workings of commercial email
systems and why many email systems are severely constrained by I/O
capability. A case study is presented of a environment with
over 100,000 end-users and 40,000+ messages per hour volumes.
Common files to
place onto the MegaRam include:
- MQUEUE
(message mail queue)
- Temp
